Bathroom Signs: Reflection

Helper: Arun S.

I think this project went very well. Everything was done on time. Because we started posting some signs early, I got to see how long they would last. By the next day, all but two of the signs posted in the one bathroom we finished were gone. I found one of them in the trash. This was expected; I've noticed that signs in the bathroom don't normally last very long. Nevertheless, I'm glad the sign reminding people to wash their hands was still up.
The posters were in black and white, and perhaps they would have been more effective if they were in color. If I were to do this project again, I would probably use Ms. Flynn's color printer.
Arun was very helpful in this project. He helped me come up with ideas for the signs and posting them on the walls was a two-person job, so I wouldn't have been able to complete it without his help.

Bathroom Signs: Milestones 1 & 2

Monday, June 13

Arun agreed to help me with my project. Tomorrow we will begin making the signs.

Thursday, June 16

Today we finished posting the signs in each bathroom. Everything was completed on time. We even finished making the signs on Tuesday and started posting them.

Sweeping: Reflection

Helpers:

Arun S.

Andrew J.

This project turned out to be more time-consuming than expected because of the wider section of the walkway.

Besides taking a long time, the project went smoothly and we got it done.

The walkway looked a lot cleaner after we finished sweeping. The project was a success and there were no major problems.

Sweeping: Milestone 3

Thursday, June 16

Sweeping turned out to be more difficult than expected. There was one area of the walkway that was much wider, and took the full two lunch periods to finish. Jon was absent for both of the days so it was just Arun helping on Wednesday and Thursday and Andrew helping on Thursday during clubs.

Sweeping: Milestone 2

Tuesday, June 14

Today I worked on getting brooms for Wednesday. I asked Ms. Hiranaka about it and she gave me the custodian's email so I could ask him to bring 3 brooms to Ms. Fitz's room. I haven't heard back from him though. If he doesn't reply by tomorrow, I will go to the office again and ask.

Sweeping: Milestone 1

Monday, June 13

Arun, Jon P., and Andrew J. said they would be willing to help me with my project.
I'm on track to continue with my project. Tomorrow (Tuesday, June 14) I will find out where I can get brooms.

Jon P.'s Project Milestone Dates and Reflection

June 8: Begin making signs
June 13: Begin hanging up signs

June 14: Finish hanging up signs

I would consider this project to be a success. It was a simple project that had a big impact. I think it will make seniors feel important and get them excited about graduation.

It went very smoothly and we made good use of the class time so we were able to get them all posted on time.

My Second Project

My second project is to put signs in the bathrooms to remind people to keep it clean. Cleanliness in the bathroom is a big problem at this school. Hopefully, reminders can get people to think about the other people who use it and keep it clean for them.

Milestones:

· Saturday, June 11: Propose project

· Monday, June 13: Find people to help and begin making signs if there’s time.

· Thursday: June 16: Post the signs

Tuesday and Wednesday will be used to make the signs. They will be made on the computer or by hand, depending on how helpers want to do it. Ms. Fitz has more than enough materials for making them.

First Project Outline

Project: Sweeeping

Starting on: Thursday, June 9

Finish by: Wednesday, June 15

This is a small project to sweep the gravel in the area just outside of the classrooms on the south side of the school. It will take place during lunch on June 15. If you still need to help with a project, please leave a comment and let me know.

Milestone dates:

  • Saturday, June 11: Propose project

  • Monday, June 13: Find out how many people, if any, will help with the project. I will announce to the class that they still have an opportunity to help with a project if they haven't already helped with two.

  • Tuesday, June 14: Find out where to get brooms (ask school staff).

  • Wednesday, June 15: Sweep during lunch.

Mentor: Ms. Fitz

Obstacle I will face may include difficulty getting access to brooms. If I am unable to get them from the custodian, I could bring my own brooms and, if needed, ask helpers to bring their brooms. Anyone who helps with the project will simply be sweeping. The more people help, the faster it will go. I think it will be possible to finish during lunch even if no one helps. I will have a maximum of two helpers for this project.

Help Project Outline and Updates

On Wednesday (June 8) I began to help Jon P. with his project. His project was to make good-bye signs for the seniors. Gavin and Molly also helped paint the signs. We will make at least four signs.

Senior Awards Ceremony

Last Sunday (June 5), I went to the Senior Awards Ceremony an hour early to help set up. I brought the drinks and cups into the building and upstairs, but other than that, they were already ready for people to show up. There wasn't as much work to do as I expected but I'm glad I was able to help and do the heavy lifting so the teachers didn't have to.
